In 2013 Craig Gosling put out a call on a forum to clean the beach at Cuckmere Haven which had been heavily littered by the winter storms. With the help of a number of local agencies and the Angling Trust about 20 guys and girls answered his call and cleared up a big section of the beach.
The philosophy of local anglers reacting to local issues was a key part of the LISA discussion. Within weeks many of the same people met in local pubs along the south coast from Eastbourne to Bognor and LISA was formed.
LISA Beach Clean stickers (below) are available upon request (click here to contact us), these can be used to identify bags containing waste material collected from beaches, we recommend placing the bags beside public waste bins located on or near to the beach.
Also the beach at Seaford was being rebuilt after being stripped of shingle by the same winter storms. It was difficult for even the able bodied to get safely down the beach. Within 3 days of a meeting in early March, LISA members had persuaded the council and contractors to build shingle ramps, and shape the beach for safer access.
Since then many beach cleaning projects have been undertaken by volunteers all around the UK coastline, if you want to take part then join us by clicking on the button below.
